History and Info
This property was purchased by Fred & Marie Schlick in 1959 from
their neighbors Lawrence & Marjorie Scales, who had owned the
entire waterfront cove. In 1965, Fred & Marie built this home on the
property. Fred was an attorney on the island but also wrote
numerous operas with a Vashon Island theme. Fred & Marie were
gardeners and started the organic garden on this property and
planted the apple trees that line Gorsuch Creek on the south border.

We purchased this property from Fred & Marie on June 1st, 2000.
A rare, no-bank waterfront property...168 feet of tranquil waterfront
When the home was built in 1965, the subfloor was constructed with 2 by 6, tongue-in-groove, cedar lumber. This type of construction is cost prohibitive today. The floor is built 6 feet above the ground making it possible for one to stand and walk around in the crawl space, among old-growth Douglas Fir support beams. The roof was recently replaced in August 2020. New, factory-painted Hardy Board siding was applied to the home in 2019.

The home is supplied with water from a nearby spring with a King County-approved Water Right & Easement. The spring was tested and certified safe and clean on July 25th, 2024. The home is connected to a propane-fed Honeywell standby electric generator that is able to power the home independently for over a month at a time, at about the same price that Puget Sound Electric charges. The generator activates automatically and immediately whenever power fails, which is not very often.
One of the biggest selling points of this home is that while it is located on a very remote beach with abundant wildlife, downtown Vashon is only a two minute drive away. Forget something while shopping? No big deal, just two minutes away. In town there are two supermarkets, two hardware stores, a movie theater, brewery, florist, bookshop, bicycle shop, pharmacy, art shops, coffee shops, several watering holes and numerous restaurants including one of the best Thai restaurants in the United States (May Kitchen). Vashon is also the home of Dragon Head Cider, with a tasting room downtown. A modern Vashon Center for the Arts hosts concerts, operas, dances and art shows. There are over ten churches on Vashon Island and a famous thrift store called "Granny's Attic." Every July Vashon hosts its annual "Vashon Strawberry Festival." There is one high school, one middle school and two elementary schools as well as private schools.

The other unique feature of this property is that the road leading down to the home is PAVED and maintained by King County. Most waterfront owners on Vashon Island that have properties located well off of the main roads must maintain their own access roads, potentially costing thousands of dollars in annual maintenance fees. The county road is paved to our driveway and routinely maintained and repaired by King County - your property taxes at work!

In addition to a private oyster farm (permitted by the Division of Wildlife) and abundant natural clams in the beach, there is ample fishing in front of this home. During parts of the year, the waters in our cove are popular salmon fishing grounds. You can also take a dinghy out in front of the home and bottom fish, landing abundant flounder and sea bass. In the same area, we set crab pots (included with the property along with the dinghy) and routinely catch the daily limit allowed by the state.

Only two other home owners live in this cove area and it is very quiet. Wildlife is drawn to the beach because of the tranquility and the two fresh water streams that empty into the cove. Sit on the deck and admire the view of the Cascade Mountains while a King Fisher splashes into the Puget Sound to catch a small trout or an Osprey plunges in to snag a flounder. Great Blue Herons constantly patrol the beach while Bald Eagles soar overhead keeping a watch out for a salmon near the beach. During migration seasons, numerous duck and geese species stop by for a drink of fresh water from Gorsuch Creek. Steelhead salmon (cutthroat trout) annually swim up Gorsuch Creek to spawn.
Launch a kayak easily since your lawn is only a couple feet from the water and enjoy being followed by a harbor seal or follow a river otter - perhaps enjoy a glimpse of a shy Dall's Porpoise.
If you are a bird-watcher, this location is an audubon paradise.

If you love wildlife, this is your sanctuary.

If you are looking for a quiet place to relax, look no further!
